WC 17th November 2025
This week in our World War Two topic, we stepped into the shoes of wartime evacuees. We explored where they travelled, how they lived, what they ate, and the journeys they faced. Using different websites and search engines, we gathered information and used it to write our own letters home as evacuee children—blending research, creativity, and teamwork.
In Maths, we’ve been using our times-table knowledge to understand factors and common factors, seeing just how useful times tables are across many areas of maths.
Week beginning the 10th November
In Year 5&6, pupils have the opportunity to become Mini Vinnies—young members of the St Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) who take part in charitable activities to support others in our community. This week, our Mini Vinnies proudly welcomed new members during our school Mass.
In PE, we have been developing dance skills and have created powerful and expressive routines inspired by the Blitz, linking closely with our World War Two topic.
Week beginning the 3rd November
In Year 5&6, we’ve turned our focus to news reporting! We began with a “Cold Task” to show what we already knew and to determine our next steps in learning.
Now, we’re diving into real news reports — discovering their key features, analysing great examples, and collecting powerful vocabulary that we can use to make our own reports shine!
Week beginning the 20th October
This week, our learning has focused on the theme of courtrooms! We’ve taken virtual tours to explore what real courtrooms look like, learned about the different job roles involved, and even created our own courtroom-inspired artwork.
The highlight of the week was our mock trial, where we worked together to solve the mysterious case of the missing chocolate cake!
Our photos show us exploring persuasive courtroom language and taking part in our very own trial.
Week beginning the 13th October
It’s been another busy week in Year 5&6! In PE, we’ve been focusing on basketball, playing a variety of games to develop our balancing and throwing skills. Take a look at some photos of us enjoying one of our balancing games!
We’ve also been doing our part to look after our school and protect the planet by taking part in a team litter pick around the school grounds. Great teamwork, everyone!
Week beginning the 6th October
This week, we performed the model text we’ve been practising to help us learn more about character descriptions. Here’s a video of our class performing the opening paragraph together!
Afterwards, we used what we’d learned to adapt the model text and write our own descriptions of different characters we chose.
Week beginning 29th September
In Year 5&6, we’ve been diving into our exciting class topic inspired by the book Holes by Louis Sachar.
In English, we’ve been learning how to write detailed character descriptions. We’ve explored a model text to spot key features that we can use to make our own writing even better.
Here are some photos of us learning our model text about the fascinating character, The Warden!
